An Emergency Management Plan (EMP) is an important document that every property management company or property owner should have for every site location in their portfolio. The EMP should include emergency procedures for management, building operations and security to follow in the event of any perceived emergency.
Emergencies including severe weather, power failure, fire, bomb threat and active attacker for example should be included in the plan. The EMP should be easy to read and understand and should be consistent with the company’s corporate policies and procedures, insurance requirements and site Fire/Life Safety Plan.
All staff should be trained on the EMP. Frequently conducted Table Top Exercises and other training including fire drills are highly recommended.
